Ontario Long Term Care System Needs a Major Overhaul

This letter appeared in the St. Catharine’s Standard and the Welland Tribune.

Has it taken the crisis and tragedy of Covid-19 to finally make the Ontario Government aware and believe and maybe listen to the fact that the Ontario Long Term Care system needs a major overhaul?

Advocacy organizations have been talking about the neglect and abuse and understaffing of Nursing Homes for decades. No one cares or listens.

We need to respect and appreciate the dedication given by the PSW’s that care for our most vulnerable citizens that reside in these facilities.

These employees should be given a full time position in ONE home with a competitive salary with benefits.

This would increase the incentive of people considering this as a profession.
