“To advocate improved care for residents in Ontario’s long-term care homes to ensure that residents are provided with consistent and quality medical care, psychological and physical therapy support.”
The Guardian Angels Program (GAP) is a not-for-profit organization with charitable objectives. We are a provincial watchdog organization of Ontario Nursing Homes and respond to concerns over the treatment of loved ones residing in Ontario Nursing Homes. We also offer support to individuals whose family members already reside in a nursing home, or those whose family members are considering entering a facility, or isolated and alone in the community.
Our Belief
“We believe that people who reside in long-term care homes and in the community are entitled to be treated without ageism, with compassionate care that allows them to keep their dignity and feelings of self-worth. Remaining years are to be lived in a home-like environment with quality medical care, proper nutrition and opportunities for mental, physical and social growth.”
Why Guardian Angels for Seniors began
I would like you to meet my mother Edna. Edna was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a hardworking, feisty woman with a great sense of humour and a sensitive soul. Problems in our long-term care system ended this wonderful life with unnecessary indignity, pain and frustration. As a result, it is in her memory that the Guardian Angels organization was established, especially as we assist others to achieve improved outcomes in their life.
